Tower 1 updates!

When we went to go check up on tower 1 and 2 we notice that the pH on tower 1 was a little higher it was 7.0! We also notice that on Wednesday we need to harvest again! It hasn't even been a week since our last one! With all this growing our plants are using a lot of water, we also had to add 3 gallons. We also added 60 mL of A and B fertilizers. The picture on the top is one our the bokchoy and this is what happen if the plant gets to close to the light!

Harvesting! 9-19-17

When we saw our lettuce today we knew we needed to harvest! We had a huge bowl full of the lettuce and Lisa took it to the kitchen to wash it so everyone can have some for lunch today!

In total our first harvest included 16.68 ounces of Gourmet Lettuce, Arugala, and Bok Choy.

Maintenance on the Grow Towers for 9/19/17

Paige and I were the only two here today in class and we had a lot to do.  For maintenance we checked the water level of both towers and determined that we needed to add water to Grow Tower #1 (GT1).  With the plants getting a lot bigger, it is starting to use a lot more water.  We we add water, we have to add fertilizer to the GT's.  We also checked the pH in both towers.  All of our number for today are listed below.

GT1:  Added 3 gallons of water
GT1:  Added 60 ml of Fertilizer A and 60 ml of Fertilizer B
GT1:  pH level was 6.0 so we made no adjustments at this time
GT2:  pH level was 7.5 so we made no adjustments at this time
GT2:  Most (but not all) of the seeds we planted last week have sprouted.  No strawberries have sprouted yet.

Today was our first Harvest Day.  Paige's post will be sharing about that.

The second tower isn't growing anything yet but hopefully by next week we will see some green.

Grow Tower 1

The grow tower one is coming along great! The pH was 5.0 it was really low so we added chemicals to bring it back up! By next week we might be able to start harvesting!

Monday's Maintenance

Today Mr. Millar and I checked up on the plants. We found out that it used a lot of water over the weekend. Since, it used so much water we had to add four more gallons and when we add water we have to add fertilizer! We added 80 mL of A and B. By the end of the week we could be eating our lettuce!

Lots of Growth Over the Weekend!!

Grow Tower Blog Post #1.

This is the first post for our new blog.  Some of our goals with this blog is to share what we are doing within the wall of Hampton Schools with those outside our walls.  We encourage comments, suggestions and questions to help us as we learn about plants with this new approach.

Here is a picture of some of the Bok Choy lettuce that we have started.  Stay tuned for my pictures and comments from the two students in the Ag Ed 10 Class.  They will be posting every other day of class with what is happening.
